Concierge Counseling
1I've never heard of concierge counseling. What exactly is it?
This is a retainer-style contract that guarantees your appointment times and gives you a set number of minimum hours each month. In some ways it's very similar to outpatient therapy, but this approach allows for a lot of flexibility with how you schedule appointments, who you want to be involved, and what goals you want to accomplish. Some people choose this approach because they simply want to have access to a counselor on standby for whenever they need it and others want to maximize the amount of meeting time they have on a monthly basis that goes well beyond what outpatient therapy often entails.
2How much does it cost?
Concierge counseling is considered a boutique service because it gives you a lot of flexibility to customize your care. You are paying for priority access and appointments when needed. Retainer style concierge contracts are customized to each person but in general is some multiplier of the number of hours you want to have each month and an hourly rate that is generally consistent with my individual and family outpatient fee. Additionally, outpatient therapy is pay as your go whereas concierge is pay in advance and 'use it or lose it' each month.
3What are some of the most notable benefits of this approach compared to outpatient therapy?
There are several benefits to this approach over traditional outpatient:
- Priority access to scheduling, which can be done in advance or even same day if possible
- Immediate access to your counselor when you need it most, often within 48 hours and often sooner (possibly the same day)
- If telehealth isn't convenient for the moment, we can also connect via other methods (such as phone or txt)
- You can combine individual, couples, or family sessions as desired. The retainer fee covers all possibilities.
- You don't need to have a traditional 50 minute session. You can break meetings into as little as 15 minute intervals since your retainer is for a set number of hours, not meetings.
4What else do I need to know?
Rethink mental health care with the concierge approach. This is designed to be a flexible approach to therapy that meets the needs of your lifestyle. Concierge means that I am more than at your service, you have priority to my services, when you need it most. You can set and adjust your monthly retainer of hours to meet your ongoing needs, whether it is simply to have some support guaranteed if you need it, and absolutely when you need it.
5What options can I choose from?
All the benefits indicated above apply to all concierge contracts. The most notable options you need to decide on for your personalized contract include:
- What is the minimum number of hours you want to retain each month?
- Do you want to set a regular schedule, have some appointments scheduled and some scheduled along the way each month, or do you want to only schedule appointments as needed?
- Do you expect to include others in your meetings, or have others present during meetings without you?
- Are you ok with consenting to communication by telehealth, phone or txt message? We can use any method as needed, but it's good to know ahead of time.
